Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Horta, Faial Island

Upon arrival at Faial Airport, you are transferred to Horta, a charming little coastal town famed for its bustling marina, colourful murals, and historic architecture. Known as the traditional gateway for sailors crossing the Atlantic, Horta offers a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, centered around the iconic "Peter Café", a must-visit meeting point for travellers worldwide.

After settling in, take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront and enjoy views across the channel to majestic Pico Mountain. For those seeking activity, hike up Monte da Guia, a volcanic hill offering panoramic views over the city, bay, and surrounding islands. At the summit, explore the peaceful nature reserve and small chapel overlooking the ocean — a perfect introduction to the natural beauty and tranquillity of Faial Island.

Meals included : none
Night : Horta

Day 2 - Hiking the Ten Volcanoes

After breakfast, embark on a scenic transfer to Caldeira do Faial, the island’s most iconic natural landmark. Perched at around 900 metres above sea level, this vast volcanic crater, 2 000 metres wide and 300 metres deep, offers a stunning glimpse into Faial’s geological heart. Hike the panoramic trail along the rim for breathtaking views of the island, the Atlantic Ocean, and the neighbouring islands of Pico and São Jorge.
Descend the southern slopes through lush forests, alongside a traditional levada (irrigation canal), and past hydrangea-draped pastures, a signature of the Azorean landscape. The trail continues with gentle ascents and descents shaped by Faial’s volcanic terrain, leading to the dramatic Capelinhos Volcano at the island’s westernmost point. This stark, volcanic landscape—formed during the 1957 eruption—offers a striking contrast to Faial’s verdant interior and a firsthand experience of nature’s raw power. Return to your accommodation in the evening, with memories of Faial’s volcanic beauty and panoramic vistas.
