5 things to think about when booking your trip

5 things to think about when booking your trip

Find a walking holiday or cycling holiday to suit you!

With the end of the year fast approaching, many of us are already starting to think about our 2020 holiday destination. Here are 5 important questions to ask yourself when planning your next trip. (Have a pen and paper at the ready as they require a little thought and scribbling down of ideas!)

1). Holiday on your own or with a guide?

On a guided walking holiday or a guided cycling trip, you can get the inside scoop from your local English-speaking guide as they share their passion and knowledge about the area and select the best restaurants to eat in. All logistics are taken care of, you just need to relax and enjoy a stress-free holiday! On a self-guided walking holiday or a self-guided cycling holiday, you are in control of your trip. You choose to explore on your own, at your own pace with the freedom to roam as you please. We provide detailed roadbooks with routes and highlighted maps to help you along the way. We also organise hotel to hotel luggage transfer.

2). Where to sleep?

Here at Intura, we handpick the accommodation favouring small & local family run guest houses or bed & breakfasts, with a warm welcome and often some quirkiness thrown in too for good measure!  Afterall, the accommodation is an important part of the local experience on your trip. We offer 3 to 4 different levels of comfort depending on the destination:
- Simple – with basic comfort and necessary services, can be quite rustic.
- Comfort – 2* and 3* accommodation with great breakfasts
- Charming – 3* quaint accommodation of great character, often favouring larger rooms
- Prestige – 4* (sometimes 5*) top notch accommodation in lavish guest houses or small family run hotels.

3). Difficulty level - easy or challenging?

The next question to ponder is the level of difficulty on your cycling tour or walking trip. We offer something for everyone with options for all abilities
- Our easy trails are ideal for the Sunday walkers or cyclists, those who wish to take their time and are more comfortable on flat, smooth terrain with just a little effort required here and there.
- Our moderate trails are for the regular exercisers who are in good shape and can handle a slow and regular uphill pace either on foot on by bike.  The terrain can be uneven in parts.
- Our challenging trails are for the sports enthusiasts. With tricky technical stages, you need to be at ease with a map and compass.

It is important to be true to yourself and not set yourself too much of a challenge. Choosing the right difficulty level will enable you to enjoy your holiday to the fullest and not suffer along the way. For those leaning towards a cycling holiday, remember that an electric bike makes the more moderate trails easy!

4). Where to go?

We offer a variety of destinations for you to discover and explore. The vineyards, lavender fields and perched medieval villages of Provence, the rugged and remote back country of the French Riviera, the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches of the Golden Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. You can enjoy a walking or cycling holiday in Corsica, the Island of Beauty, head off to Northern Italy and enjoy a walking holiday in the Italian lakes, fly to Portugal on a city trek, discover the Algarve region or stroll through the famous Port wine vineyards. Or we can send you further afield to the Lusophone Island of Madeira. Find your perfect holiday on our website and get excited about where you’ll be walking or cycling next year!

5). Red, white or rosé?

Once the answers to the above questions have been found and that 2020 holiday has so carefully and lovingly been planned and put together, the real head scratcher of a question pops up: what colour wine should you enjoy at the end of the day on your walking tour or cycling holiday ?
