Day 1 - Welcome to Dordogne & visit the famous Lascaux caves
Arrive in Sarlat on your own and transfer by private taxi to Montignac. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a short walk out and back to the UNESCO World Heritage Lascaux caves, offering a fascinating glimpse into humanity’s ancient past and the remarkable creativity of early humans : a complete and original replica which houses the oldest paintings of humanity and retraces the discovery of the famous decorated cave. (Entrance not included, to be booked in advance on the website).
We recommend prolonging your trip and spending an extra night in Montignac with the possibility of visiting the Regourdou site and discovering Neanderthal man.

Today you can choose between 2 loop rides, both taking you to St Amand de Coly, labelled as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Along the way, you'll enjoy charming villages, historic architecture, and scenic views of the Vézère River. Before or after your ride (if you did not have the time to do so yesterday) you can visit the famous Lascaux caves renowned for their spectacular prehistoric cave paintings, dating back over 17,000 years (bookings need to be made in advance). Although the original caves are closed to the public to preserve the delicate artwork, visitors can explore Lascaux IV, an impressive replica that faithfully recreates the stunning art work of the ancient cave dwellers.
Set out on a peaceful loop walk from Les Eyzies into the forested heart of the Gorge d’Enfer, following in the footsteps of the Cro-Magnon man. This gentle hike offers a chance to reconnect with nature, pass prehistoric remains hidden in the undergrowth, and enjoy the serene, shaded paths of the Vézère Valley
