Mercantour hiking: Alpine lakes and rock carvings - guest reviews

Now, before we go any further, you really do need to be a seasoned hiker to appreciate this walking holiday. It’s long walks, steep climbs and high altitude, but as the old saying goes… no pain, no gain! Actually, there is very little pain involved, just a whole lot of gain. The views on the walking paths are simply breathtaking, particularly when reaching the mountain lakes. The Mercantour Park is renowned for it’s incredible fauna and flora so for any botanist enthusiasts, this is the trip for you! The cherry on the cake is the 3 nights stay in the Chamois d’Or. Perched at 1550m (5085ft), this chalet hotel is everything you would expect of a mountain retreat : cosy, welcoming, comfortable and peaceful. Hard to believe that the French Riviera is within walking distance!
