WEATHER
Continental Portugal has a climate with Atlantic and Mediterranean influences.
The coast is always more temperate, subjected to the oceanic mildness while the climate becomes drier when you go inland. The North of Portugal is much more rainy and cold in winter while the Algarve in the south enjoys a very mild microclimate. The summer is hot in Portugal, so we advice to stay on the coast during this period.
- Spring : all regions are pleasant at this period, with the explosion of flowering and an extraordinary light.
- Summer : Warm and dry inland, we recommend the tours on the coastline, more temperate and ideal for wonderful swimming.
- Autumn : The beginning of autumn is very pleasant from North to South. After the rains at the end of October and beginning of November, the southern part (from Lisbon to the Algarve) benefits from the "little summer of Saint Martin" also called the 2nd spring. It is a very beautiful period, with great light and the first oranges.
- Winter : The Algarve benefits from an exceptional micro-climate. The almond trees in bloom from January give a particularly pleasant touch to the region. From December to early March it benefits from exceptional light.

FAQ
Is it possible to ride on the coastline in the Algarve ?
The Algarve has 3 different coastlines, each offering different landscapes and challenges: the "Sotavento" in the East offers paths that run alongside the lagoon and salt flats of the Ria Formosa Park (day 3), the "Barlavento", offers small roads that run along a coast of multicolored cliffs and whitewashed villages, and finally, the Vicentine Coast, the wilder West coast.
There are a lot of bike tours in the Algarve, what is good about this one ?
This bike tour offers a complete crossing of the Algarve, from the East to the West & from the hills to the coast. You can admire the varying landscapes and stop for refreshments in the typical villages and towns.
This tour is possible only by e-bike ?
The rides are long and steep in parts, therefore we consider this a moderate to challenging trip and recommend e-bikes. For the more athletic, it's also possible on a gravel bike.
What is the type of terrain during this tour ?
You will encounter several types of terrain during this tour. Some parts of the route are on small paved roads (50%), others on cycle paths (10%) or dirt tracks (40%).
When is the best period to visit the Algarve?
This trip is possible year-round thanks to the Algarve's mild and temperate microclimate. Spring and autumn are blooming with pleasant temperatures. But winter is often bright, offering a real contrast to other European regions. The summer heat is tempered by the presence of the ocean and is the best time for swimming.
