Day 1 - Welcome to Burgundy

Arrive  in Chalon sur Saoen, ideally by train from Paris just under 2h via Dijon, the gateway to Southern Burgundy. Stroll through its charming historic center, visit the Nicéphore Niépce Museum, or unwind at a riverside café. If it's Sunday, explore one of the region’s largest markets, filled with fresh produce, local cheeses, wines, and artisanal crafts—a perfect taste of Burgundy.

    Today’s ride is a true highlight, featuring Burgundy’s iconic Château de Berzé-le-Châtel, the majestic Solutré rock formation, a Unesco-listed landmark, and the ancient town of Cluny, home to the world-famous Cluny Abbey, one of the most important religious sites of the Middle Ages. The ride is a bit more challenging, with an elevation gain of 500 metres, but the beauty of the landscapes and the historical sites more than make up for it.
