Walking and cycling holidays in France

France offers a huge range of cycling holidays and walking tours. The landscape changes considerably from North to South, from the coastal towns to the rural countryside villages, from high snow-capped peaks of the Alps and the Pyrenees to sweeping plains and infinate skies. It is a territory rich in culture and heritage, proud of its world famous cuisine and exquisite wine.  France is also our homeland and we are the local specialist with expert knowledge of walking and cycling holidays, the best places to sleep and most mouthwatering places to eat ! We seek to seduce our clients with the colourful Provence, the shimmering French Riviera, the medieval Dordogne and the wild and unspoilt Corsica by creating self-guided walking and biking holidays in some of our most loved locations.

The most beautiful place for walking and cycling holidays in France : Provence

Our office is based in Avignon, in Provence, easily one of the most picture postcard regions in the country. Think olive groves, cherry orchards, vineyards, rows of lavender and fields of sunflowers ; the landscape that influenced the brush stroke of Vincent van Gogh. Enjoy walking and cycling holidays in France through this idyllic scenery, the starting location always easy to access by train or bus or with a private transfer. You then spend your days walking or cycling from hotel to hotel, following our self-guided route notes, enjoying the view, the food, the wine and the French way of life.

Where do we offer self-guided walking holidays ?

Initially focused on Provence and the back country of the French Riviera, over the last few years we have spread our wings and headed north, and much further north again, headed to the south west and then delved deeper into the French Riviera to create a wide range of self-guided walking tours.

We headed slightly north to the Vercors, basking in our love of the alpine landscape, the fresh mountain air, the wilderness and rewarding hikes. We also headed even further north, to the opposite end of the country in fact, to the delightful Normandy to offer easier walking tours engulfed in history. Our love of perched villages, majestic castles and of course delicious food & wine sent us south west to the Dordogne where we spent many a happy hour out on the trails, admiring the chateaus along the river, hiking through chestnut forests and exploring troglodyte villages. And, just as with our Provence tours, we found the right suppliers to work with (hotels, guest houses, taxis etc..) whom we trust to take good care of you during your trip.

Why travel with us ?

Here are 4 very good reasons for booking walking or cycling holidays in France with Intura :

1. Our very own tours

We create and operate all of our waking and cycling holidays. Our itineraries are tried and tested by our team of track finders, who walk the paths and cycle the routes to ensure that you see only the very best. Because we create the tours, we can also tweak them and create a tailor-made holiday, just for you. Choose the duration of nights, the level of walking or cycling that you feel comfortable with, the level of accomdation that you would like and let us know if there are any extras such as wine tasting or a cooking class or a restaurant or two that you wish to include, and we will get back to you with a personalised offer and/or recommendations for any ‘must sees’ and local markets not to be missed !

2. Handpicked local suppliers

We choose our partners based on our core values and it is important to us that we work local. We strive to offer small family-run guest houses on our walking and cycling holidays in France and avoid the chains. We understand the importance of a decent cup of coffee in the morning and the pleasure at finding home-made jams on the breakfast buffet. The accommodation on our trips is all part of the local experience!

3. High end bikes on your cycling holiday

France is home to the ‘Tour de France’ and thus reigns a strong bike culture with superb trails and paths to explore safely. We offer good quality bikes and have been working with our bike supplier for almost 2 decades now. The fleet is renewed regularly and the bikes are expertly maintained. You can choose to hire a hybrid bike, an electric bike or a road bike. The bikes are delivered to your first accommodation and picked up from your final destination. We include a brief for Ebikes, an explanation on how they work. Enjoy a bike tour through Provence, from 3 to 8 days, taking it easy or setting yourself more of a challenge, either way, you will fall in love with France’s rich and diverse landscape and culture.

4. Reassurance

Although our walking and cycling holidays in France are self-guided, we do all the groundwork to provide you with excellent, detailed written route notes and up to date GPS files. We book all transfers in advance so you don’t have to and we provide you with a 24/7 emergency telephone number. We are here to answer any questions, put an end to any doubt and assist you in any way we can whilst you are out on the trails.
