Activities on the Italian Lakes

Our itineraries for an Italian walking holiday are based around three of the largest lakes in Italy, Lake Garda, Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. With a wonderfully mild climate and truly exquisite scenery, there is so much to do and see on your self-guided walking tour. We offer easy walking itineraries, along the lake shore and through colourful villages to the more moderate trails inland and up through the mountains. There are numerous villas to visit, each boasting stunning botanical gardens and a flexible boat pass allows you to pick and choose which villas you want to see. Not forgetting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, local markets, guided boat trips and numerous swimming opportunities, you will be spoilt for choice!

For any nature lovers and horticultural enthusiasts, there is an abundance of botanical gardens to lose yourself in. You can enjoy a boat trip on Lake Maggiore towards the castles in Cannero with a local guide on board. You can meander through local markets and indulge in a spot of retail therapy. You can choose to spend a day lounging by the lakeside, swimming and picnicking and swimming some more. And for a little bit of history and culture, you can visit the Unesco World Heritage Site – the Sanctuary of Madonna del Soccorso with its 14 chapels and 230 life size statues. Your self- guided walking holiday can be whatever you want it to be: adventurous, challenging, easy going, cultural or horticultural. There is something for everyone on the Italian lakes!
